Looking for New Board Members to Govern our Award-Winning Organization

Stella’s Circle is looking for volunteers to join its dynamic and committed Board of Directors. Members of the Board oversee the governance of Stella’s Circle, a nationally-recognized social justice community organization with a mission to transform lives by offering Real Homes, Real Help, Real Work. Each year, we assist 1000 people who face many barriers from fully participating in their community. Such barriers include mental illness, addictions, poverty, homelessness, illiteracy and long periods of unemployment.

In preparation for its Annual General Meeting in June 2019 and to ensure a diversity of skills, experience and people on the Board, Stella’s Circle is encouraging expressions of interest from people interested on being on the Board. We are looking for people who share our social justice focus and our values of wisdom, connectedness, courage, respect and innovation.

The Board manages the governance of the organization, limited only by the constitution of the Corporation, availability of resources and relevant statutes. It consists of 12-16 people who are at least 19 years and older and who reside in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Terms are for three years with an additional three-year term possible. Board members are expected to attend regular meetings of the Board, held September to June, excepting December, and sit on committees of the Board. An orientation program exists for new Board members. While all skills sets are welcome, the Board is particularly interested in people with the experience, skills and/or education in the following areas: social enterprise, communications, accounting, property management and development, legal and social media.

Please indicate your interest in being considered to serve on the Board of Directors of Stella’s Circle by contacting Cathy White at [email protected] or 709-738-7730 by May 10, 2019. Additional information regarding expectations of Board members and an Expression of Interest form will then be forwarded.
