Stella’s Circle Looking for Teacups With a Story
In 1945, pioneering social worker Dr. Stella Burry founded Emmanuel House as a residence for women moving from outport Newfoundland and Labrador to St. John’s. This was the beginning of the organization now known as Stella’s Circle. Now celebrating its twentieth year of incorporation, Stella’s Circle has grown to over 140 staff assisting 1000 participants a year in services related to housing, employment and counselling.

Dr. Stella Burry, a pioneer Social Worker, was recognized by the Correctional Service of Canada as a Distinguished Nominee for the 2014 Ron Wiebe Restorative Justice Award. Dr. Burry, who passed away in 1991, was the founder of Emmanuel House and was the visionary for Stella’s Circle as is exists today.

The Stella Burry Foundation is a registered charity, established in 2005 to secure financial support for the work of Stella’s Circle.
